Deutsche Bahn launches Danish based Scandinavian operation
06-05-2008
Location and infrastructure:
The logistics division of German national rail operator Deutsche Bahn (DB) is expanding in Scandinavia.
Railion Deutschland, the rail logistics subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn, has obtained authorisation from the relevant authorities and supervisory boards for the launch of Railion Scandinavia, a joint venture with Green Cargo, the freight subsidiary of Swedish state rail operator SJ, informs the newssite IPAWorld.
Officially, the joint venture will be created through Deutsche Bahn's Danish rail freight operator, Railion Danmark. Green Cargo is to participate in the Danish company, which is to be renamed Railion Scandinavia. The joint venture will be an alliance of equals, although the German shareholder will own 51 per cent. Railion Scandinavia will concentrate entirely on the operation of trains, while sales and marketing will remain the responsibility of Green Cargo and Railion Deutschland.
Deutsche Bahn AG includes leading logistics providers Stinnes and Schenker. The railway's long-distance, regional, urban passenger transport divisions carry passengers yearly throughout Germany and into neighbouring countries.
