Billions to Danish biotech
09-05-2008
Life science industries:
Danish biotech companies are about to reap billions of Danish crowns in the next few years, says an expert. The industry has matured and is ready to sell off.
The Danish biotech industry has matured and has become a potential multi billion industry in the international market place, says Sten Verland to the news agency Ritzau. Sten Verland is a biotech expert and partner in the investment company Sunstone Capital, which as late as last week participated in selling a biotech project for approximately EUR 85 million.
He believes that Zymenex’ sale of its project probably is only the first in a wave of sales by Danish biotech. The reason is that many of the Danish companies within biotech have reached – or are about to reach – a stage which make them attractive to large pharmaceutical groups. Consequently the chances will be sell offs for billions of Danish crowns during the next five years.
“There is a rather large a-group of Danish biotech companies which have projects in all the parameters important to the global pharmaceutical industry, says Sten Verland.
