Most often companies undertake recruitment of staff themselves. The majority of vacancies or new jobs are published on job web sites on the Internet and in national newspapers on Sundays.
In the case of wage earners, vacancies are often filled through assistance from the publicly financed employment service (Arbejdsformidlingen). In addition, a growing number of private recruitment agents are entering the market, assisting companies in finding qualified personnel, both for short-term contracts and for executive positions. A list of recruitment agents and their contact information can be downloaded from the Copenhagen Capacity website www.copcap.com/resources.
A well functioning labour market is also dependent on the availability of skills. Therefore, staff training and upgrading of qualifications, particularly of unemployed workers, is of high priority to the government as well as to firms in Denmark. The IMD ranks Denmark first in terms of priority of employee training, see figure below.

Services from the Danish Employment Service
The services offered by the public agency the Danish Employment Service (Arbejdsformidlingen) include among others assistance in recruiting labour and retraining of the employed staff.
As part of the process of establishing a new company or a branch office in Greater Copenhagen the Danish Employment Service can assist in:
-
Searching for qualified personnel with specific qualifications
-
Selections of qualified personnel
-
Development of training programmes in order to obtain particular qualifications
-
Training of personnel in specific job functions
Assistance at searching for qualified personnel and selection of personnel are normally free of charge. If training of staff is needed the Danish Employment Service can assist in developing training programmes for the selected personnel. This will be free of charge provided that the training needed is considered an instrument for re-qualifications of the labour force of the region.
